"250 piano pieces for Beethoven"

Susanne Kessel invited 250 composers from all over the world to write new piano pieces for Beethoven's 250th anniversary in the year 2020. All pieces refer to Beethoven's music and/or his life.
Susanne Kessel played the world premieres of all the piano pieces in Beethoven's birthtown Bonn. And further performances also in other cities and countries.

All pieces are published within a high quality sheet music edition by EDITIONS MUSICA FERRUM / London.

„Beethoven“, „Sonaten“, „Es-Dur“ waren in dieser Reihenfolge die ersten Begriffe, die mir zum Stück für Susanne Kessel einfielen. Beethoven schrieb vier Sonaten in Es-Dur.

47 aus harmonischen Erwägungen bestimmte Ausschnitte unterschiedlicher Länge aus diesen vier Sonaten – die Nr. 4, 13, 18 und 26 – bilden das Tonmaterial für das resultierende Stück «quarantasette estratti da un vicolo ludofilo» oder „siebenundvierzig Ausschnitte aus einer spielfreudigen Gasse“ («ludo» und «vico» entstammen der italienischen Form «ludovico» von „Ludwig“, «es» der Tonartbezeichnung Es-dur).

Das Stück besteht aus einem langsamen Teil gefolgt durch einen schnellen. Prägend durch seine ganze knapp zweiminütigen Länge ist eine Folge von harmonischen Schwalbenschwanzverbindungen: das Ende eines jeden Ausschnitts deckt sich harmonisch mit dem meist darübergelagerten Anfang des nächsten.

Am Ende erklingen die Schlusstakte aller vier Sonatensätze gleichzeitig."
