"250 piano pieces for Beethoven"

Susanne Kessel invited 250 composers from all over the world to write new piano pieces for Beethoven's 250th anniversary in the year 2020. All pieces refer to Beethoven's music and/or his life.
Susanne Kessel played the world premieres of all the piano pieces in Beethoven's birthtown Bonn. And further performances also in other cities and countries.

All pieces are published within a high quality sheet music edition by EDITIONS MUSICA FERRUM / London.

Juan María Solare über sein piano piece „Heiligenstadt oder der Rand des Abgrunds“:

„Musikalisch sind hier zwei Hauptwelten gegenübergestellt: Der Wille und die Affirmation einerseits, die Zartheit, das Zweifeln und Verzweifeln andererseits. Und als drittes Element, am Ende jeder Phrase, die Resonanzen: eine Allegorie für die verdunsteten Erinnerungen und ein Symbol der Sachen, die nicht sein konnten.

Zum Titel: in Heiligenstadt (heute ein Stadtteil Wiens) verfasste L.v.B. 1802 ein berühmtes Dokument, das sogenannte Heiligenstädter Testament. In diesem Brief drückte er seine Verzweiflung über die fortschreitende Ertaubung und den nahe geglaubten Tod aus eigener Hand aus.

Die Tonsprache des vorliegenden Stückes ist allerdings nicht die der Beethoven-Ära, sondern eher vollchromatisch. Die zwölf Töne werden in jedem Motiv anders gruppiert: in Quartenharmonik, mit Ganztonleitern oder als fließende 12-tönige „Wolken“. Das affirmative Element ist eine robuste Oktave, die entweder zu einer kleinen None oder zu einer großen Septime abweicht.

In jeder der insgesamt vier Phrasen/Sektionen erscheinen die zwölf Tonhöhen stets auf der gleichen Oktavlage. So gesehen ist das Skelett des Stückes lediglich die Verkettung von vier Hyper-Akkorden.“
