lyrics

Johannes S. Sistermanns about his piano piece „Kleine Sekunde“:

"'Resolution' is the magic word for the halftone interval 'small second'. It has always been dissonant. Throughout several Beethoven centuries, it releases all tension in a harmonic half-tone step. The small second, shifted by one octave, has been making a career as a small ninth in NEW MUSIC since the middle of the 20th century. Here the solution dominates before any 'dissolution'. Here solution is openness as well as decoupling from the unambiguous and reproachful. This freedom is not the goal but the brew, in that it happens unpredictably."
