"250 piano pieces for Beethoven"

250 composers from all over the world are invited to write new piano pieces for Beethoven's 250th anniversary in the year 2020. All pieces refer to Beethoven's music and/or his life.
Susanne Kessel plays the world premieres of all the piano pieces in Beethoven's birthtown Bonn. And further performances also in other cities and countries.

All pieces are published within a high quality sheet music edition by EDITIONS MUSICA FERRUM / London.

You can find the sheet music of this piece in Vol. 5 of the project's edition.

Georg Gräwe about his piano piece „Behauptung und Nachtrag X“:

„Of Beethoven’s late piano sonatas op. 101 has always been my favourite – especially the first movement with its bitter-sweet ternderness that would later become one of Brahms‘ trademarks. (Of course, its a love song, though not to the dedicatee Dorothea von Ertmann but to Ludwig’s „Immortal Love (Antonie Brentano).

„Behauptung und Nachtrag“ is a series of recent piano pieces inquiring into the interrelation of musical phrases in a variety of ways. The title is an abstraction from the „antecedent and consequent“ to a specific number of bars in symmetrical order but rather to a form of rhetoric.

The material (melodic and harmonic) for „Behauptung und Nachtrag X“ is based on the hexachord from the first two bars of Beethoven’s sonata (gis-a-h-cis-d-e) and its complement (c-es-f-g-b-fis). Apart from that the piece is supposed to be a 21st-century portrait of what used to be called „innigste Empfindung“.“
