"250 piano pieces for Beethoven"

Susanne Kessel invited 250 composers from all over the world to write new piano pieces for Beethoven's 250th anniversary in the year 2020. All pieces refer to Beethoven's music and/or his life.
Susanne Kessel played the world premieres of all the piano pieces in Beethoven's birthtown Bonn. And further performances also in other cities and countries.

All pieces are published within a high quality sheet music edition by EDITIONS MUSICA FERRUM / London.

Fried Bauer about his piano piece „Echoes from Beethoven“:

„In meiner Kindheit gab es magische Momente, zum Beispiel wenn ich auf dem Heimweg nach meinen Proben mit dem Musikschulorchester die Musik in mir weiter klingen hörte. Es war ein berauschendes Gefühl, wenn die Stücke plötzlich in meiner Vorstellung eine Fortsetzung fanden, wenn auch ohne einen Funken Wissen darüber, wie diese vorgestellten Fortsetzungen zu konkretisieren wären. In diesen Momenten fand eine Suche ihren Anfang.“

Diese Worte stammen aus dem booklet meiner Piano Solo CD „Forgotten Fantasies“ mit Improvisationen über klassische Werke.

Bis heute schwirren mir Themen, in den letzten Jahren vor allem die von Beethovens Klavierkonzerten wie Echos durch den Kopf.

Das Thema, welches die musikalische Klammer meiner Minivariationen bildet, ist die Sonate G-dur op. 49 Nr. 2.

Ich fühlte mich durch die ersten Triolen Achtel direkt wie zum Dialog aufgefordert, aus dem eine Frage und eine Antwort entstanden, die wie ein Echo wirkten.

Am Anfang gibt es nur eine kurze formale Begegnung. Den eigentlichen Kern bildet die eigene freie Assoziation, um die „Seele“ des Stückes zu erfassen. Für mich der kurze (Im)Puls eines Echos, das im Mittelteil von „Für Elise“ ausklingt.

… und bin dann mittendrin wie magisch hingezogen plötzlich in dem wunderschönen Thema des 4. Klavierkonzertes gelandet.

Der Schluss ist dann eine Assoziation an Beethovens unbändige Freude, mit der er mich meist in seinen freudigen Themen begleitet und beglückt.“
