Susanne Kessel invited 250 composers from all over the world to write new piano pieces for Beethoven's 250th anniversary in the year 2020. All pieces refer to Beethoven's music and/or his life.
Susanne Kessel played the world premieres of all the piano pieces in Beethoven's birthtown Bonn. And further performances also in other cities and countries.
All pieces are published within a high quality sheet music edition by EDITIONS MUSICA FERRUM / London.

„Soweit ich musikalisch zurückdenken kann, hatte ich schon von frühester Kindheit eine enge Verbindung zu dem Komponistentitan Beethoven (und Bartok), was mich im Verlauf dann auch durch jede Lebensphase begleitet hat. Während der Vorbereitung zu dieser Komposition fragte ich mich: welche Klavierstücke von L. v. B. würdest du denn mit auf die berühmte einsame Insel nehmen? Bei Insel dachte ich spontan an Shakespeares Sturm und dann natürlich auch an die Sturmsonate. So wurde insbesondere deren abgründiger zweiter Satz ein Vorbild für meine Komposition. Die Zeit scheint hierin stehen geblieben zu sein. Auf Ariels entsprechende Frage antwortet Prospero bei Shakespeare: It´s two glasses past midday…alles vergeht wie in einem Zweistundenglas- die Grenzen zwischen Traum und Realität, alles scheint zu verschwimmen. Zerklüftete Klänge schweben in extremen Registern am Abgrund. Das mittlere Pedal hält hierbei die ganze Zeit stumm die Töne von Beethovens Namen eingedrückt, gleich einer in Stein gemeißelten Inschrift. Durch den hierbei entstehenden Nachklang kommen immer wieder neue Klangverfärbungen zustande. Auch begegnen wir Klangsplittern aus dem ersten Satz (Recitativ) sowie aus der Hammerklaviersonate. Der Schluss verebbt mit zerbrechlichen Tremolofiguren. “The great globe itself, / Yea, all which it inherit, shall dissolve; / And, like this insubstantial pageant faded, / Leave not a rack behind. We are such stuff / As dreams are made on, and our little life / Is rounded with a sleep” (Shakespeare, The Tempest). Das Stück ist im März 2019 entstanden und der Pianistin Susanne Kessel gewidmet.
