"250 piano pieces for Beethoven"

Susanne Kessel invited 250 composers from all over the world to write new piano pieces for Beethoven's 250th anniversary in the year 2020. All pieces refer to Beethoven's music and/or his life.
Susanne Kessel played the world premieres of all the piano pieces in Beethoven's birthtown Bonn. And further performances also in other cities and countries.

All pieces are published within a high quality sheet music edition by EDITIONS MUSICA FERRUM / London.

Alexandra Klein über ihr piano piece „Beethovens Locke – Bonn(e) B.“:

„Beethoven ist seit meiner Kindheit und Jugendzeit mein Lieblingskomponist; als Mädchen hatte ich eine dementsprechend lockenähnliche Frisur. Durch regelmäßige Urlaube kenne ich alle Beethovenwohnungen in Wien; dort konnte ich Beethovens Locke in einer Glasvitrine noch sehen.

– Bonn(e) B. ist im Titel geheimnisvoll mehrdeutig: steht für Bonn, für frz. Gut, B. steht für Beethoven, Bach, Barock, für frz. Boucle = Locke, Schleife.

Beethovens Musik strebt dem Finale entgegen; mein Klavierstück ´beginnt´ mit der Schluss-Stretta der zweistimmigen Orgelfuge D-Dur WoO 31, welche der 13-jährige Beethoven 1783 zur Erprüfung zum stellvertretenden Hoforganist in Bonn komponierte und spielte, erst posthum gedruckt und veröffentlicht. Orgelpunkt, lediglich Fugato/Imitation, Unisono, poetischer Kontrapunkt, Abspaltung, Liquidierung, Akkorde, lassen Beethovens typische Merkmale bereits erkennen. Weiteres Material (= Lieblingssujets) meiner Komposition als poetische Idee sind die Anfangsakkorde und das Unisono des Gellert-Liedes „Die Himmel rühmen“, welches ich schon als Jugendliche meinen Vater begleitete, sowie als musikalisches Reverenzzitat die ersten vier Takte der Fuga Polimetrica aus der Partita für zwei Klaviere von York Höller. Alles steht miteinander in Verbindung, wird weitergeführt, abgebrochen, wieder aufgegriffen, fallen gelassen.

Beethovens Locke – Bonn(e) B. ist der Pianistin Susanne Kessel gewidmet. Bisher war ich als Komponistin ausschließlich selbst die Interpretin meiner Klavierwerke und meines Orgelwerks. Improvisieren und Fantasieren am Klavier, wichtige Inspirationsquelle für Beethoven und seine Stärke, geht auch meinem Notieren voraus. Es ist für mich sehr spannend, dass meine aufgeschriebenen Noten jetzt auch von anderen Klavierspielern gespielt, interpretiert, zu Gehör und zum Erklingen gebracht werden. „Eine Fuge zu machen ist keine Kunst, ich habe deren zu Dutzenden in meiner Studienzeit gemacht. Aber die Phantasie will auch ihr recht behaupten, und heut´zu Tage muss in die alt hergebrachte Form ein anderes, ein wirklich poetisches Element kommen.“ (L. v. Beethoven über die Große Fuge).“
